How to: tracing a pattern on fabric

Yesterday was a full day of tracking and tracing. Wanna see how I do that?
First of all, I would like to introduce to you my light box. Light box, meet my readers, readers, meet my light box. A professional graphic light box of a firm size. Expensive? No way. A printer decided he worked digitally and no more with life pictures. So therefore it was dumped and almost thrown in the dump. Until a friend of mine thought of me and saved it from the dump.

13*18 inches of daylight light box! I found also a light box for my Quilt Mom. A light box of a physiotherapist who received all her x-rays digitally. A huge light box for a very reasonable price! So search your Craigslist or Marktplaats for a professional light box. Or use some glass, a wine box and a day light lamp, and done! Make sure the lamp doesn't get hot. Your water soluble marker will be burned in in no time, unable to remove. Low energy light bulbs are great for this purpose.

Next step: putting the pattern on the box, and stick it on with removable tape.

Put the fabric on it, and stick it to the light box, so it won't move.

Take your Clover water soluble marker (thin) or an equivalent marker of your own choice. Hey, I am easy!

Start tracing the pattern. You didn't expect that move, did you?! I use a ruler for the straight lines. I am not that good with going straight.

First steps done. Just like quilting, first the main lines, than the motifs, and the grids when all is done. So, no grids.

And when I am done, you can't even see it.

Until the light goes off. Taadaa!

And when the table is too low, and the lower back pain is too much? Put the light box on the kitchen counter top! That is definitely high enough.

1 done, 23 to go. And outside? Snow as little as powdered sugar on a donut.
Hey, it is almost March. Can't it stop?!

Looking forward to spring!

Have fun quilting!

  2. I love a bit of recycling, what great finds. I have a friend who does all her cutting on the kitchen counter for the height.
I can't wait for Autumn or at least when it's cool enough to quilt.
