Class sample almost ready

Between my day job, writing blogs and the regular housework, my sampler is fit in. The 1/2 inch grid is almost done. A bit on the lower and upper right, and then under the sewing machine to put on the binding. Here the proof of my work:

Someone asked why I decided on a 1/2 inch grid instead of the 1/4 inch. I learned the rule that the grid should be smaller than the smallest main motif, to make that pop up too. My smallest main motif is the leafs on the heart. A too small grid wouldn't make the grid better, there would be too difference in size between the grid and the main motifs. So therefore, and that's mainly gut-feeling, I decided on a 1/2 inch.

Hope to finish this class sample tonight!

Have fun quilting!

  3. Hello Annemart, I have discovered your blog when researching on hand quilting and notions and I read it regularly since. I have started hand quilting only few months ago and was surprised at how much I enjoy it. Reading blogs like yours inspires me greatly.

I was wondering if you could comment on fabric you use for hand quilting. The fabric I can find locally (I live in Madrid, Spain) is nice for patchwork, but it is too loosely woven to achieve small stitches (I have counted, it has around 60 threads per inch). I have tried with sheeting and I can get 14 stitches (top side counted), but it is hard on my hands. So I am in the process of searching for the perfect fabric and would appreciate any hints – I would love to make a whole cloth quilt as my next project!

Thank you very much for all the wisdom you are sharing with us!
