Visiting Houston in 2012!

It's definite now. In 2012 I will be in Houston! I'll be there with some of my Dutch friends (like Debby from http://www.quiltstyle.blogspot.com/. Isn't that great! She has a counter on her blog, so we check at her blog when we will be going. She also embroiders, but everybody has it's deviations, and we accept her the way she is.;-)

I am already couponing (is that an American word?) to pay the trip. And then some, to pay everything I will buy there. Usually I end up with bags and bags full of notions and books. In the Netherlands quilt stuff is pretty expensive, compared to American prices.
I know from the quilting board and from this quiltforum that Americans are complaining about the prices of fabric. When I tell you that quilt fabric in the Netherlands costs around 22-25 dollars a yard, you may understand that America is quilt heaven for us. When a book in America is about 25 dollars we usually pay around 30 euro. Exchange rate 1,4 dollars for your Euro, so that would be 42 dollars. And importing means costs for postage & handling, customs for packages above 32 dollars and VAT if it is above 150 dollars. And for all this, the mailing company asks another 20 euro. So yes, we buy online, but only small packages.

With prices like that going to Houston pays for itself!!! I will keep you informed about our preparations, special events and who and what we are going to visit. Houston itself is not so much our focus, although Galleria is always in the planning.

And then meet our list of preferred suppliers of Dutch quilters:

Cherrywood Fabrics, hand-dyed cotton with a great look and feel. I love it!

Threads and More, because they are so low priced, it pays our trip!

The Scissors man from Famore

Paperpieces.com, because you can buy your paper piecing by the bulk, instead of 50 in a package. And what can you do with 50 hexagons? I am busy with a king size now. Bought 3000 1" hexagons, so I can prepare them all and then build up my quilt colorwise. No flowers, I want a more abstract color pattern with gradations.

And most of all, the sweet guy from Famore, who always flirts with Agnes, another girl in the group, who wears her red hat with pride for several years now. We see him every show we visit, and he always has a kiss left for Agnes!

I am very excited that everything is arranged. We will book our flight later, but our hotel room will be booked first day after Festival 2011.

It's a pity I can't take a flight now, but next year is second best. Keep in touch, and maybe we meet in Houston next year!

Have fun quilting!

Heel dubbel voor me: ik wil niet dat de tijd zo snel gaat, aan de andere kant: was het maar vast zo ver!
Kan bijna niet wachten. Ben zo jaloers op de mensen die er nu zijn!!
